Thanks for this!

Oh, and when the woman on 13800138000 says "pound" (and you're british and you have no idea what this means) they mean 'hash' (#). "Press one pound to recharge for your account" Means 'press one and then hash to add credit to your account'. N Americans, I think, won't be confused with this.
Comment on "Guiding Signs in the Subway"
DR
on August 15, 2009, 1:00 pm

Not a very useful article. I could only understand what you meant because I know how to use the subway already.

The most important thing is finding the right exit when you get to your destination, and knowing the landmarks so you can use the local area map on the platform effectively. Once you're out of the subway, you're out, and if it's the wrong exit you have to cross the road. Which is often far worse news than it sounds.

I like these funny puns. They are visual and inspired. I'd like to add a word "槑"(mei2)which originally means plum but used by netizens to discribe someone slow-witted, because it looks like two "呆" standing
together, hence picked up the meaning of double dullness or foolishness. It's very funny.

Comment on "How to make the cheapest overseas phone call"
Keith Fok
on January 8, 2009, 9:20 am

I am using ShenZhouXing(Easyown) "Changting Card", and I just called 10086 this morning.

Unfortunately, They just told me that "Changting Card" cannot use 12593 to make an Intl. call at the rate mentioned above, BECAUSE my card cannot activate "Intl call" function.

But my card can make domestic long-term distance call by adding 17951 to save money. If I add 17951 before my destinaton number, total calling fee per min will be 0.25+0.10=0.35yuan in Beijing.

If my phone needs to roam somewhere out of Beijing, I have to call 10086------2号键(国内漫游优惠)-----2号键(国内漫游优惠计划)----1号键(开通或取消)
activing my roaming discount plan. The discount price will 0.39yuan per min no matter when you call out or receive a call if you are not in beijing. Even, during Jan. and Feb., i just need to pay 0.21yuan if i make a call or receive a call when i am out of Beijing.

Hope this info is helpful for someone like me using Easyown Changting Card.

Yes. That's true. I heard some people they buy luxurious cars but they rarely drive them. They just put their cars aside and let them collect dust. Instead, they drive their old cars to go out. Then what's the point of buying new things?
Comment on "the Central Radio and Television Tower"
Jennifer
on November 14, 2008, 12:57 pm

Yes. It is a magnificent tower. There is also an aquarium under the tower, not too big, but still very interesting. Climb to the top of the tower, you can have a bird view of the city, which is really amazing!!! There are lots of interesting activities, such as some picture shows, games, scene of CCTV News broadcasting imitation, etc, etc. But I advise you’d better check what the weather will be like on the day you are heading there. Otherwise, it won’t worth the money you spend on the ticket.

Comment on "To Understand Living With Parents"

Now a few couples prefer to have daughters as the financial burden of having sons is much greater. Parents often buy their children an apartment so they will be less burdened with mortgage payments. But in return parents can visit their children whenever they want to, or can stay for months. But, after all - two generations. Disputes do exist.

Most of videos on those websites are still in English and are edited with Chinese subtitle. So you  may get the video you want in English.
