In the spring, Miss Li Banyue, the prime minister's daughter, visited Mount Hua with her maid Chuncao. They were intoxicated with the spring scenery of Mount Hua.However, it was spoiled when they run into Wu Du, the son of theMinister of Official Personal Affairs, a fop, who attempted to molestMiss Li. A migratory scholar Xue Meiting passed by as it happened. Xuerushed into saving Miss Li and brought down Wu. Xue was arrested. Whenhe was charged in the court of district, Wu's mother who enjoyed anhonorary title by imperial mandate intervened into the case and wantedMagistrate Hu Jin immediately to execute Xue. When Maid Chuncao heardthis news, she had no time to inform Miss Li. The bright maid rushedinto the courtroom, and pointed out that Xue was the son-in-law ofPrime Minister Li. For the sake of the prime minister's power,Magistrate Hu sent a letter to the Prime Minister to verify it. Whenthe Prime Minister received the letter, Miss Li came back home withChuncao. They explained the whole affair to Prime Minister Li and askedhim to save Xue. But Prime Minister writes to Magistrate Hu, thatcontains the order to have Xue executed secretly. The complot letterwas seen through by Miss Li. Chuncao changed the letter to admission ofXue as the son-in-law. After reading the letter, Magistrate Hu wasoverjoyed, and sent Xue to the capital. Xue is widely recognized as theson-in-law of the prime minister. The Emperor heard the affair, andrewarded them a stele to bless the marriage. Prime Minister Li couldn’tdefy the Emperor, and accepted the fact.
